Alpenglow Love Stories: Sunrise Elopements at Sparks Lake
There’s something undeniably magical about a mountain sunrise. The air is cool and quiet, the water is glassy and still, and if you time it just right, the first light of day lights up the Cascade peaks like they’re on fire.
Sparks Lake, nestled just outside of Bend along the Cascade Lakes Highway, is one of those places that doesn’t just live up to the hype—it exceeds it.
For this elopement, we leaned into the quiet beauty of morning: soft light, golden skies, and a couple deeply present with each other in one of Oregon’s most breathtaking alpine landscapes.
Whether you’re a morning person or not, trust me—Sparks Lake at sunrise is worth the alarm clock.

Land Acknowledgement
Sparks Lake sits within the traditional and ancestral lands of the Klamath, Northern Paiute, Molalla, and Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. These lands have been cared for since time immemorial by the Indigenous peoples who hunted, fished, gathered, and held ceremony here long before it became known as Central Oregon.
As we explore these landscapes and create meaningful memories, it’s essential to acknowledge the original stewards of this land—and to do our part in respecting and protecting it. I encourage all couples who elope here to tread lightly, stay curious about the history of the place, and carry that respect with them throughout the day.
Sparks Lake: One of Central Oregon’s Best Kept Not-So-Secrets
Sparks Lake is a high-elevation alpine lake perched just west of Bend, at the edge of the Cascade Range. It’s part of the Deschutes National Forest and sits at the base of South Sister and Broken Top, offering some of the most iconic views in Central Oregon.

You can access Sparks Lake via a short gravel road off the Cascade Lakes Highway. There’s a main day-use area with a small trail, picnic spots, and plenty of shoreline to explore. And while the views are grand, the effort is minimal—making it ideal for couples who want wild beauty without a long hike.
Sparks Lake also pairs well with a full-day elopement adventure: you can paddle in the morning mist, explore nearby trails like Green Lakes or Todd Lake, or simply soak up the golden hour with a celebratory picnic. Whatever your pace, this spot delivers.
